On the Road with the Red God Macheddendranath Nepal 52
mins
Directed and Produced by Kesang Tseten Lama
A remarkable documentary, shot over the space of one year.
A great wooden chariot with a towering fertility symbol, dedicated to the Red
God Macheddendranath, is constructed and then hauled by huge crowds through
the Kathmandu valley. They wait for auspicious signs to travel, fight internal
battles between castes of workers, face rival chariots and pray that in this
year there will be no lose of life during the procession, that the valley will
be blessed with fecundity and that the threat of civil war will not totally
destroy their traditions.
