The Festival of Mountaineering

Mission Statement: To celebrate,
promote and develop mountaineering writing by providing a high
profile, dedicated one-day festival which encompasses showcasing
of new books, commissioning of new work and critical debates.

LATEST FESTIVAL NEWS Recent Banff prize-winner Stephen Venables will present his autobiography Higher Than The Eagle Soars (Hutchinson) in the place of Clint Willis who is ill. Stephen will also tell the story of The Last Blue Mountain, following Canadian psychologist Geoff Powter’s presentation of We Cannot Fail: The Fine Line Between Adventure and Madness (Constable and Robinson). From the USA, Jeff Long will introduce his remarkable new novel The Wall (Simon and Schuster). Boardman Tasker winner Charles Lind will discuss An Afterclap of Fate: Mallory on Everest (Ernest Press) in relation to the 20th Festival theme, ‘When is Adventure Madness?’ at the Brewery, Kendal on 10 November 2007. Plus lots more new writing and debate on this theme led by a major new essay from Ed Douglas.
