Welcome to the third Kendal Mountain Book Festival which continues to move on leaps and bounds since its first appearance as part of Kendal Mountain Festivals in 2004. It is fast establishing itself as one of the leading festivals in the world focussing on writing based on or around the mountains their landscapes and cultures. In 2006 we have three major new developments to announce: -

Writers' workshops - where we put our toe in the water with a series of three workshops aimed at encouraging new writing within the genre with a diverse range of subjects

Readers' group programmes - following a successful pilot project in 2005 we will be working with up to 6 readers groups across South Lakeland in collaboration with Library Services. This will involve more than 100 local readers who will read selected mountain books during the Autumn and then meet with the authors to discuss their experiences. We hope to extend this in 2007 and open the programme to the wider public

Boardman Tasker Prize for Mountain Literature - we are delighted to announce that we will be hosting the presentation of this prestigious award in 2006 and hope that we will be providing it with a new Northern home for the foreseeable future.

News: Boardman Tasker Winner- Charles Lind - An Afterclap of Fate: Mallory on Everest

Oh and we're starting a little earlier than originally planned this year with an exciting collaboration with new-writing group SLATE based in North West Cumbria where we welcome Robert Macfarlane back to the Festival to discuss his latest writing project. All this alongside 6 meet-the-author events and a book fair and book signing frenzy. Enough said..read on...

Special thanks to Bernadette Mcdonald and Shannon O'Donoghue (Banff Mountain Festivals), Jackie Fay (Kendal Library), Jeremy Over (SLATE), Ed Douglas , Maggie Body, Julie Summers, Terry Gifford, Mandy Dixon (K Village Outlet Centre), Ottakars and the team at the Brewery Arts Centre.
